Pittsburgh-Based Hip-Hop Artist and Activist

SEPT. 19, 2017 7:30 PM

The Point Park University Talk Back Series welcomes Jasiri X, a Pittsburgh-based hip-hop artist and activist. He is one of the founders of Pittsburgh’s anti-violence group, 1Hood, which works on a community level to organize and incite change by reaching youth of color. Jasiri founded 1Hood Media, a collective of socially conscious hip-hop artists and activists; they utilize art as a means of raising awareness about social justice matters affecting people around the world. Jasiri has been acknowledged by Harry Belafonte, Angela Davis and Chuck D as being at the vanguard of a new movement of social change. Unfortunately, our country has struggled with social issues for some time. The 1930’s true story of nine African-American men wrongfully convicted of rape comes to Point Park University’s Pittsburgh Playhouse this fall, Scottsboro Boys the Musical. The REP, the University’s professional theatre company, performs this moving production as its opening show.

JUST ANNOUNCED: Joining Jasiri X on stage will be Yusef Salaam, influential and transformational speaker. You can read more about Yusef here.
