The comedy of remaking a Greek tragedy.
Imagine taking one of the oldest plays in the Western World and updating it. Big Love is a fresh twist on Aeschylus's The Suppliants. It’s still about fifty brides who flee to a manor in Italy to avoid having to marry their cousins. However, the contemporary story follows three couples, wildly debating topics like gender inequality, love and domestic violence. And yes, it includes modern advances like helicopters.
Big Love proves that the ancient Greek story, featuring the full spectrum of topics like love and marriage, is just as relevant – and entertaining – today.
