Opening Season of Point Park University’s Pittsburgh Playhouse Welcomes Fresh Choreographers and Works for the Conservatory Dance Company

 

PITTSBURGH (May 30, 2018) – Point Park University’s Conservatory Dance Company announces the 2018-2019 season, which features bold pieces and choreographers to mold this stunning, virtuosic and exciting season, with performances in the brand new, state-of-the-art, Pittsburgh Playhouse located in Downtown Pittsburgh. This bold season will feature works by international giants like Nacho Duato, Christopher Wheeldon and Aszure Barton as well as national treasures, maverick and trailblazers Kyle Abraham, Dwight Rhoden and Peter Chu.

 

"The 2018-2019 dance season will be a bold move for the department,” said Garfield Lemonius, Chair of Dance and Associate Artistic Director.  “Concerts will feature diverse repertoire by some of the dance world’s renowned movers and shakers, and trending, emerging choreographers. Our exceptionally talented Conservatory dancers will delight Pittsburgh audiences like never before as this celebratory season promises to be breathtaking, inspirational, groundbreaking, and ‘cool’.” 

 

The Conservatory Dance Company 2018-2019 season subscriptions go on sale on Monday, July 2 at 10 a.m. and cost $74-$84. Single tickets are $20-24 and will go on sale at 10 a.m., Tuesday, September 4th online, in person at the Playhouse box office, or by calling 412-392-8000. Student and Senior tickets are $10.

One of the most anticipated traditions on campus, now featuring two presentations of different choreographers and their works in the fall and spring, Student Choreography Project features works of original choreography by the Conservatory’s students. This showcase for a wide range of styles gives dance lovers the opportunity to see new works. Many pieces from past seasons have been selected for national dance festivals.

Faculty Dance Concert

Point Park University’s faculty choreographs special works for the Conservatory’s gifted dancers. An eclectic and electric selection of pieces range from ballet to contemporary to jazz to shine a spotlight on the versatility and strength of our students. Spring Dance Concert
